WINE TASTING PROGRAM
Itinerary passes on Archaeological Park Città del Tufo.
It passes through necropolis of Sovana and we ride between deep roads carved into the rock - Cavone and Cavoncello -famous Etruscan Street.
We descends towards De Branda (Pope Gregorio VII) tomb.
We can stop 15/20 minutes to visit it.
Route continues through Antinori vineyards.
Stop for illustration of this cellar and its operations and for wine tasting (3 glasses of wine accompanied by a small platter of local products).
Saddle up and stop for lunch at an Agriristoro: cutting board typical products and traditional first course + house wine.*
Departure for internal paths.

This version it’s the same of “wine tasting program” without brek at Antinori wine cellar.


3 HOURS PROGRAM
The shorter version is similar of "Daily program”: shorter itinerary and no break and no food/wine including.

A naturalistic and historical ride, unique in the world. You will ride in a landscape and archaeological context of enormous value.
Vie Cave are Etruscan engineering works, narrow streets carved by hand in tuff rocks, sometimes over 20 meters high, a network between ancient settlements and necropolies, sacred areas.
Il Cavone is one of the main cave roads in Sovana.
Immersing yourself in an almost primordial environment trought moss, ferns, plant and niches with frescoes (including medieval ones) and symbols carved into the rock, such as the solar swastika in the Cavone. An evocative, almost fairytale-like experience, amidst dizzying walls, mysterious carvings and plays of light.
For an unforgettable experience, pampered in an agriristoro and/or in a wine cellar – Antinori. Antinori in Sovana is a bet on the tuscan Maremma, valorizing native grape varieties such as Aleatico, from which sweet wines and elegant rosés are born (e.g. Sovana DOC Superiore, A rosé), and experimenting with Malbec, which finds an ideal terroir here, producing complex, spicy and fruity wines, such as the famous "Vie Cave", with notes of berries, coffee and tobacco.

Rides start near Sovana: an antique Etruscan town and a charming medieval village, in southern Tuscany.

This ride is at a fairly relaxed pace overall but there are good chances to canter and you need to able to control a well schooled horse at all paces in open country.
The pace will be limited by the terrain. There are good opportunities to trot and canter on the chalky white dirt track or when you cross agricultural land.
You will follow white dirt tracks, narrow paths through the forest, and will climb up to ridges and descend into deep valleys caved into the mountain so you should have a good independent seat.
You should be reasonably riding fit and should have a fairly good level of general fitness.
You should be able to mount a horse without help, be confident on and around horses and comfortable, relaxed and secure on saddle.
There are some tarmac road but safe going that the horses are used to.

Well trained and looked horses. They are all responsive, willing and enjoyable to ride as well as being sensible and calm to handle.
They are fairly lively temperament but calm with traffic and surefooted.
Mixed breed. They are medium builded local Italian saddlebreds crossed with various other breeds. Some local Maremma crosses, Anglo Arab, Sicilian, Andalucian & Apaloosa crosses.
Mostly English style and most horses are ridden in snaffles.
Mostly Wintec saddles or similar. Very comfortable - but don’t expect tack to be gleaming, or anything more than adequate.
There are pockets in the saddle blankets with room for water bottles, swimwear, suncream etc
Horses are prepared and tacked up for you - some help with untacking etc at the end of the day is appreciated.

There are good opportunities to trot and canter on the chalky white dirt track or when you cross agricultural land. The pace will vary from day to day and will be limited by the terrain.

-Riding clothes. Jodhpur’s/breeches or western riding (jeans) are best for who don't have equestrian sportswear
-Riding ankle boots with spats or sneakers for who don't have equestrian sportswear
-Backpack and scarves are not allowed because they can framed in the branches.
-Belt bag for personal items
-Sun cream during hot season
-Own helmet. For who don't have it, we will give one to them
